Patriot League Goes Chalk

It was an uneventful first round in the Patriot Tournament with the top four seeds advancing into the semifinals.

Top seed, Bucknell cruised past Navy 58-42, while 2nd seed Lafayette took care of Holy Cross by a score of 77-54.

Meanwhile, 3rd seed Lehigh had the toughest test of the day against Colgate. They came away with a 71-64 victory. The Mountain Hawks overcame a 4 point deficit at half to advance in the tournament. Just last season, the Mountain Hawks shocked the NCAA Tournament eliminating Duke as a 15 seed in the tournament.

4th seeded Army, cruised past American University 65-44.

The semifinals will be played on Sunday and will pit Bucknell against Army, while Lehigh will square off against Lafayette.

Horizon League Sees Little Drama in 1st round

Championship Week has gotten off to a crazy start and it began that way in the Horizon League as the three first round games got going. However, it certainly didn't end that way at all as all three home teams held serve and will move on to Friday's quarterfinal action.

There was one game that really had the drama going and that was the 6th seeded Youngstown State taking on 7th seeded Loyola (IL). The Big South had set the table for drama and this game picked up right were it left off. It took a crazy layup from DJ Cole with 2.5 seconds left in the game for the Penguins to seal the deal, winning 62-60, and advancing to face 3rd seed Wright State on Friday from Valparaiso.

More Tournaments Underway on Wednesday

The Atlantic Sun along with the Ohio Valley, Patriot and West Coast Conference Tournaments are in action on Wednesday as March Madness resumes.

If games from Tuesday from the Big South and Horizon League are any indication, buckle up because we are just getting started for a wild ride through the month of March.

Big South Upset

Thanks to the Big South Conference for this photo after Longwood comes up with the first upset in Conference Tournament Play thus far. The Lancers upset UNC-Asheville 87-72.

And They're Off!

It didn't take long for March Madness to get into full stride. In the first conference tournament game of 2013, Winthrop defeated Radford in overtime at the Big South Tournament in the first game of the day session.

Not enough early madness for you? Longwood, a team who won only 7 games all season upset UNC-Asheville, who had won back to back Big South Titles.
