Belmont prevails over OVC power Murray State

Belmont made the move up in competition from the Atlantic Sun to the Ohio Valley Conference and while they dominated things in the A-Sun, it wasn't supposed to be an easy transition. After all there was still this behemoth known as Murray State to be dealt with.

Instead the Bruins took the regular season title in their first year, winning it with a two game advantage in their division, and on Saturday afternoon they did the double - winning the OVC tournament title and with it the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament as well.

However, unlike the ease with which they took down the OVC regular season crown Murray State would give them all they could handle before bowing in overtime, 70-68. This game was close from start to finish with Belmont holding a 22-21 lead, only to see Murray State take the 2nd half 41-40. OT went the way of Belmont, but not until Kerron Johnson (who chose Belmont over Murray State when he was coming out of high school) hit a game winning jumper with 2 seconds remaining.

Here are the full highlights of Belmont's historic and memorable win - it was a style of finish we would see a few more times throughout the night.
