Upset Specials in Day Session of SoCon



The Day Sessions in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament provided a day of upsets as Furman and Georgia Southern advance.

The Paladins of Furman won just their 7th game of the season as a 12 seed, bumping 5th seed Samford out of the tournament, 55-51. Senior, Bobby Austin scored 17 to lead Furman to the quarterfinals.

In more of a mild upset, 9th seeded Georgia Southern defeated 8th seed Wofford by a lopsided score, 60-44. Eric Ferguson had 17 points in the victory for the Eagles.

With the wins, Georgia Southern will move on to face top seed, Davidson on Saturday while Furman will meet 4th seed, Appalachian State in the quarters.

Two more games are on tap tonight from Asheville, N.C.
