Upset Alert in 1st Round of West Coast Tournament

After an eventful opening day of action in Championship Week there was a severe lack of drama or excitement anywhere on day two.... Until the West Coast Conference tournament went and changed all of that in their opening round game between Portland and Loyola Marymount.

Sure it's hard to call a matchup between an 8 and 9 seed an upset, but when the last place team is 1-15 in conference play, an 11 point win in the tournament's opening round game, is surely an upset. That's exactly what Loyola Marymount pulled off, taking down the Portland Pilots 65-54 and sending Portland back to the Pacific Northwest after just one game in Las Vegas.

Ashley Hamilton and Kevin Bailey literally canceled each other out, scoring a game high 21 points a piece. However, the Pilots couldn't stop the Lions' bench and that made all the difference in this one as LMU's bench held a 16-2 advantage on the score sheet.

The Lions move on to play in the first game tomorrow night against 5th seeded San Francisco, while it will be San Diego vs. Pepperdine in a 6 vs. 7 matchup for the nightcap from the Orleans arena in Las Vegas.

This is one of the most fun and unpredictable tournaments out there and we'll be keeping a key eye on the action in this one for you. All games tomorrow can be found on BYUtv (check local cable listings for channel).
