Big South Semis...Intriguing

The Big South Tournament has provided it's share of drama in 2013. On Day one, back to back Champion UNC-Asheville, fell hard to Longwood. The Lancers came into that game having won just 7 games on the season.

On the same day, you had two overtime games for the first time in over a decade and Liberty took out Coastal Carolina in front of their home crowd.

In the quarterfinals, favorites Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern and VMI advanced but one of the heavy favorites to win fell, in High Point. It was Liberty surging again to move into the semifinals.

The Big South representative in the NCAA Tournament has been very pesky, historically. Winthrop had a nice run with Gregg Marshall and they lead in conference Championships with 10. UNC-Asheville has made a name for themselves lately and have 4 Championships, along with Charleston Southern.

The Semifinals on Saturday will pit:

1S)Charleston Southern vs. 2N)VMI  12pm

This game has the potential to be a shootout. The Keydets are 9th in the Country in scoring and Charleston Southern doesn't mind getting the ball up and down the court, as well. They are 40th in the Country scoring.

2S)Gardner-Webb vs. 5N)Liberty  2pm

The Flames have been the Cinderella of the tournament thus far with wins over Coastal Carolina in front of their home fans and High Point, the top seed in the North. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have won 8 games in a row and 11 out of their last 12.

It is a safe bet that whoever is left standing when the dust settles, will be a tough out in the NCAA Tournament in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to High Point University for highlights
                                           of loss to Liberty.
